School Days

Guardians 4’s 2nd single, entitled School Days, was released on 09.02.09. The title track was used as the 4th ending theme for Shugo Chara!! Doki.

School Days is a sunny and sweet song that continues the girls’ cute sound. The song begins with an upbeat and happy instrumental that will make the listener smile along with the girls. Aika sounds great as usual andher vocals stand out in particular alongside the magical fun instrumentation. The chorus is nice and energetic, keeping the flow from the verses. It’s a quite nice track mostly because of the instrumentation, which more than just the usual cute standard. It definitely highlights the girls’ voices and stands out.

いつかどこかで. is the single’s B-side. Even though it’s not the most stellar track and a pretty typical song, it’s a nice listen when the listener is in the mood. The vocals fit the music well and keeps the sunny atmosphere for the listener to hear.

In order to promote the single, a PV for School Days was made. The video features the girls wandering through a hedge maze as well as dancing in a library. There are guest appearances from the anime characters to promote the show even more. It’s nothing amazing but the girls look cute and it fits the song nicely.

Single Ranking: B

Guardians 4 did a nice job with their second single, continuing with another cute song. It would be nice to see them try something different for a single like Buono! did because the results could show a different side to these girls that would make them shine.

Guardians 4 – おまかせ♪ガーディアン [Debut Single]

June 10, 2009 at 6:29 am (Guardians 4) (, )

Guardians 4’s debut single, entitled おまかせ♪ガーディアン, was released on 05.27.09. The newly formed unit consists of Mitsui Aika (Morning Musume), Sugaya Risako (Berryz Koubou), Kumai Yurina (Berryz Koubou) and Nakajima Saki (C-ute). The title track was used as the opening theme song to Shugo Chara.

おまかせ♪ガーディアン is a cute fun song that is all smiles. The song begins with a pretty and cheerful instrumental that is very fitting for the opening theme of a cute anime series. On the first verse, the vocals are okay although they could have been stronger. It doesn’t help that the music relaxes a little bit so the cuteness doesn’t even come full force. The chorus is a little better just because the energy comes out more strongly and the girls sound very good together. It stands out particularly when they sing “happy happy.” It may not be the most interesting song but it’s cute and it’s enjoyable for what it is.

Summer Has Come! gets the summer energy kicking for the listener to enjoy. Opening the song is a twinkling sweet instrumental that carries more of an edge, which stands out. On the first verse, the vocals suit the music perfectly and the music remains quite interesting. The chorus is full of summer energy and it may come as somewhat expected from the verses, it’s enjoyable nonetheless. Overall, it’s a great song for summer and could have been chosen to be the A-side.

In order to promote the single, a PV for おまかせ♪ガーディアン was made. Not much goes on in the video except for the girls being cute and happy, holding up signs and a big banner. There is some dancing although there isn’t very much and there are some close-up shots thrown in here and there. Also included are scenes from the anime series to amplify the cuteness.

Single Ranking: B

Guardians 4 make their debut with the cute happy sound that has come to be known in Hello Project. With the established groups (Morning Musume, C-ute, Berryz Koubou and even Buono!) trying new things, it would have been nice to hear something cool or mature or at least different. But the single can be enjoyed for its cuteness nonetheless.
