Nishino Nana’s 2nd single, entitled Break away, was released on 05.13.09.

Break away is a fun pop number. The song begins with a cool rock-tinted instrumental that has such a fun spirit to it that it can’t be ignored. Then comes the first verse and her vocals fit with the music well, carrying this sort of building energy. Actually, the chorus ends up being kind of cute with some clapping serving as its introduction. She gives some stronger vocals and the music is nice here so it stands out nicely. It’s a pretty good song worth dancing along to.

The B-side of the single is リンス is. Beginning the song is a nice midtempo instrumental that has a natural feeling to it. Nana then sings the first verse and her vocals are deeper than usual but they work with the music so it was a good choice. The chorus isn’t particularly grabbing since the music isn’t that different and she doesn’t give any vocals that make the music shine. It’s an okay song but nothing worth going out of the way to hear.

In order to promote the single, two PVs were made: one for Break away and the other for リンス.  The video for Break away is a dance video that shows off Nana’s style. The other part of the video features Nana as a mannequin that comes to life and hangs out with the girls who discover her. The PV for リンス is a studio video, featuring her recording the song. These PVs are usually uninteresting and this is no exception.

Single Ranking: B

Break away is a fun song that will make the listener want to get up and dance along with Nana. リンス wasn’t very interesting but it provided a contrast to the A-side.
