Mikaoverload

Nakashima Mika’s 28th single, entitled Overload, was released on 05.13.09. Overload was used as a Lipton Limone CM song.

Overload is a beautiful song about moving forward. The song starts off with a very intresting instrumental that soon gets to have a sort of wintery feeling to it, which sounds very strange. Then comes the first verse and there’s a true smoothness to her vocals that catch the listeners’ ears. However it’s the chorus that makes this song so wonderful as the instrumentation comes sparkling through and Mika’s vocals show more emotion and power. The pure instrumental section is nice since it gives the violin the opporunity to shine before moving into the chorus. Overload is a great chorus because of the absolutely gorgeous chorus and some stronger verses could have made the song even better.

The single’s B-side is No Answer. The song starts off on a sweet note with a soft and calming instrumental and then comes the first verse. The music keeps its relaxing feel but it picks up the tempo a little. Unfortunately, it doesn’t strike the listener in the right way and it sounds kind of uninteresting. The chorus isn’t any better and just continues on the same path. No Answer is pretty uninspiring and could have been a lot better if it had more variety.

In order to promote the single, a PV for Overload was made. The video features scenes of Mika wandering through an apartment as well as close-up shots of Mika sporting the look on the covers of the single. It’s kind of a strange video but an enjoyable one nonetheless.

Single Ranking: A –

Overload is one heck of a song and Mika should be very proud of herself. The chorus is amazing and if the whole song followed more closely to its sound then the song would have been even better. No Answer was pretty forgettable but at least it contrasts the A-side nicely.

I think that Overload is my favourite song from Mika Nakashima. It sounds really good and there’s also the lyrics that talk about the struggles in our daily routines. =D Good song but the PV… Mika really creeps me out. =_=”
