Takasugi Satomi’s 7th single, entitled Tears in the Sky, was released on 12.17.08. The title track was used as the theme song for the video game Genso Suikoden Teirkreis.

Tears in the Sky is a sweet upbeat number. The song begins with the chorus as Satomi’s vocals calmly wave over the very pretty instrumentation. She hits her notes nicely and keeps the listener interested. Following is a pure instrumental section that uses the violin to push its beauty. On the verses, her vocals remain sweet and they support the relaxing and pretty instrumental. What makes this song so enjoyable is the instrumentation, which is gorgeous and Satomi follows nicely with her vocals. Overall, it’s a very good song worth checking out.

It was ティアクライス ~希望のトビラ~ that made me take notice of Satomi on this single however. Her vocals are great here and really go with the piano and the chorus is the perfect example of this. She really brought strength onto this song and it honestly should have been the A-side.

In order to promote the single, a PV for Tears in the Sky was made. The video is very simple, just featuring Satomi wandering around, mostly in a forest. She is wearing the outfit from the covers and she looks nice but the video just doesn’t quite grab the viewer since nothing really seems to happen and it’s not one of those videos where simplicity just works.

Single Ranking: B +

It’s another nice single from Satomi. Tears in the Sky is quite pretty and is one of her more memorable tracks while the B-side was actually the stronger number. Hopefully she’ll be able to keep strength up onto her next album, which is due next year.
