Shimizu Shota’s debut single, entitled HOME, was released on 02.20.08.

HOME is an enjoyable and relaxing track that puts the listener at ease. The song opens up with the beautiful sounds of the piano (alongside some other instruments) and then the chorus comes in full blast. Shota’s vocals are heavenly here as they smoothly carry the sweetness of the lyrics and he finishes off by singing the title of the song, which is the song’s best point. On the verses, the beat that he sings to his very clear and he gives enough power to stand alongside the music. HOME is the perfect way to introduce the world to the talents of Shimizu Shota with wonderful vocals, beautiful music and a sweet and smiling atmosphere.

Shota teams up with BOY-KEN for the first B-side, MUSIC. Beginning the song is a very interesting instrumental with a slight Carribean feel and BOY-KEN comes in with a booming and annoying introduction. Luckily Shota steps in and provides smooth and dreamy vocals that carry the song into the listener’s heart. As time goes on, his voice shows more power and stands out more. Once BOY-KEN actually gets to rapping, he becomes a very enjoyable force on this track. Shota tries out a new sound on this track and it pays of well, letting the listener fall into Shota’s charming voice.

Finishing out the single is another slow number, Miss You. While it doesn’t possess the same sweetness as HOME, Miss You is a sorrowful ballad that immediately stirs up the feelings of nostalgia. His vocals on this song perfectly capture that emotion and keep the listener sympathizing with the emotions of the song. It’s a great addition to the single.

In order to promote the single, a PV for HOME was made. It’s a very enjoyable video, featuring Shota in different scenes with the emotions coming across his face at all times. His face is so young and fresh that you just want to hug him and it makes for a very enjoyable video.

Single Ranking: A

Shimizu Shota certainly made a strong entrance into the music world with this song. HOME is such a sweet song that the listener can just fall in love with while both B-sides compliment the A-side nicely.

lol Kevin , how come you didn’t review his 2nd & 3rd singles subsequently & not to mention his debut album Umbrella ?

anyway HOME’s pretty good but Ashiteru was the one that really caught my attention of him

too bad he doesn’t sound good belting out R&B uptempo no.s :S & Umbrella was quite samey

I guess that’s the problem if you’re a full blown R&B artiste . I also had the same problem when I listened to Aoyama Thelma’s DIARY album , a lot of the album tracks sounded the same if not simliar to the singles tracks

I had that with Umbrella too 😦

hahaha, I was going too but then the year ran out and then I would be breaking the rules of only reviewing from the current year 😛

I was thinking of doing it over on Destiny Line though so I might get that done eventually haha

HOME is probably my fav song cause it is a little more upbeat and memorable. I can DEFINITELY agree with you about having same-sounding songs for R&B artists. DIARY was the same way…I can’t even remember any of the tracks except for HIGHER and Soba ni Iru (but that’s because it was like a smash hit and it’s all she ever performs lol)
