Ito Yuna – miss you [11th Single]

September 3, 2008 at 7:32 pm (Ito Yuna) (, )

Ito Yuna’s 11th single, entitled miss you, was released on 09.03.08. The title track was used as the theme song for Ito En Vitamin Fruit CM. miss you actually inspired the cellphone novel Tenshi no Koi and thus the Love Machine Gun, will be used as the main theme song for the novel.

miss you, a sweet love ballad, is the title track. Opening the song is a very sweet instrumentation with a romantic atmosphere and then the first verse comes in. Her vocals sound pretty here and bring the lyrical theme to life, particularly when she sings “stay here.” The repeating words in the chorus stand out nicely and she sounds wonderful as she sings “i miss you.” Yuna really shines on this ballad as her vocals show the lyrical memories of the song.

Things pick up for the fun B-side, Breeeeezin!!!!!!! The song starts off with a happy atmosphere fueled by a dance pop instrumentation and Yuna saying “Everyone go to the beach, we’re gonna get breezin.'” Immediately the listener becomes interested and then the first verse starts as Yuna delivers some flawless vocals that portray attitude and sleekness to match the music. On the chorus, she shows off the power of her vocals, particularly when she sings the title of the song. The parts that stand out the most of the song are the verses as they carry an edginess to them that is really ear-catching. It’s an excellent song and could have been the single’s leading A-side.

In order to promote the single, a PV for miss you was made. The video is absolutely gorgeous, reflecting a certain naturalness that is mirrored in the song. Yuna is seen hanging out with her girlfriends at the beach as they have fun, throw frisbee and even play with fireworks. There is definitely the element of nostalgia that runs through the video, catching the viewer’s eye. After watching people pass by on bikes, she reminisces to a time when she was riding with her boyfriend. She also remembers when he gave her a shell that has the phrase “love u always” on it. As a very summery video, it definitely portrays the song well.

Single Ranking: A

Yuna really shines on both songs to make this a fantastic single. miss you is a very sweet love ballad that really evokes the feeling of reminiscent. BREEEEEZIN!!!!!!! compliments miss you very well by picking things up for that beach party sound and she sounds great here. Overall, miss you is Yuna’s strongest single to date and it’s a signal that she’ll be bringing even more strength in the future.

I absolutely agree 100% with what you said while summing this single up. It’s amazing that she can give singles that can sometimes be utterly horrible, then give us something so amazing. I’ve got high hopes for this era now.
